The International Ballet School presents its tenth annual Nutcracker at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver - December 2011.
This beautiful production boasts over 150 costumes and lovely sets and decor performed by talented children from 6-18 years of age.
The show is traditional on both sides of the proscenium arch, for years families have made the outing to see The Nutcracker a yearly occasion and young dancers have danced their way upwards from a mouse in the Battle Scene to the Sugar Plum Fairy or other coveted roles.
The youngest children are Bon Bon’s and they emerge from the giant Ginger's dress to the delight of the audience. They are also Mice in the Battle Scene that torment Clara and fight the valiant Nutcracker's soldiers in the first act leading to the transformation of the Nutcracker to a Prince
Every little ballerina's dream is to portray Clara whose magical Christmas party is visited by her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer. This coming of age tale has beguiled children and adults alike for over 100 years with the magnificent music of Tchaikovsky and the charming tale of Hoffman.
Why have a youth ballet company?
Founded in Colorado in 1993, the International Ballet School has achieved national recognition as a distinguished training ground for young dancers. Accompanying this prominence is the responsibility to train fine dancers with the highest technical standards and to do so with dedication, integrity and a caring attitude. In accomplishing these aims, it is central to the philosophy of the school that each student, regardless of whether or not a career in dance is planned, is given the care and individual attention he or she needs in order to reach their full potential. Exceptional dance training builds enduring life skills that will carry over to all areas of a person's life. It is our belief that the best way to send a young person into the future is with self confidence, discipline, creativity, and respect. We have spent our lives dedicated to this beautiful and gracious art form. During the course of our dance careers, we have enjoyed a wonderful life living and working abroad and dancing for some of the most prominent choreographers, teaches and directors of our time. It is our responsibility and great privilege to pass down the knowledge and experience we have gained, and hope it may inspire the next generation. For there is nothing more inspirational to us as teachers as seeing our students achieve their dreams.
